Pine Warbler Dawn song with chatter.
Pine Warbler Dawn Songs
Pine Warblers typically sing one song type throughout the day. These diurnal songs are also composed of one syllable type. However, their dawn songs are something else. Dawn songs are often composed of two or more song types with different syllables and sometimes they mix syllables from one song type with another, it is a mesmerizing experience to listen to these woodland beauties doing their best stuff. What is perhaps even more interesting is that these male Pine Warblers will add a series of chatters to their dawn performance that are never given during the day. The function of these dawn chatter displays is unknown. They are not given every morning and in some instances they are given when the bird is changing his perch during the dawn song period. Whatever the reason, it is worth getting up early to listen to and enjoy the dawn singing and chattering of the Pine Warbler .
Again, you've taught me something new today, I did not know the Pine Warbler had more than one dawn song. Thanks Will! Jim Berry
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jim. It is amazing how much we still have to learn about our native birds.
